Fishing & Eco-Tours

The mighty Monkey River, winds its way southeast through dense jungle from the base of Richardson Peak and empties into the Caribbean Sea. The area's only human population of about 200, lives at the mouth, in Monkey River Village. The surrounding jungle is undisturbed, leaving the local flora and fauna at peace to prosper and thrive. Visitors are likely to encounter the famous Black howler monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, tropical birds, and many other local wildlife, and you might even spot a jaguar (jaguars are most active at night, so chances of seeing one are minimal). Monkey River is also well known for its world-class sport fishing. Parties catch bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, barracuda and king mackerel.

Clive Garbutt is a sport fishing and eco-tour guide, and along with his team of six experienced guides lead Monkey River boat trips and Natural Adventure Tours into bays to watch manatees, birds, monkeys and other wildlife. Fly fish, spin cast or troll in Monkey River itself or offshore by the barrier reef with guided eco-tour services.
